Linear systems of equations
How it works
Two linear equations can be solved by substitution, equating, or addition. A solution must satisfy both equations. The lines can intersect, be parallel, or coincide.
Note
Substitution: take y from one equation into the other.
Substitution: take y from one equation into the other.
An example
Solve the system x+y=-2 and x−y=2. Find x. Provide only the solution.
Add equations: 2x=0. Thus x=0; then y=-2. Result: 0.
