CLASS 7 · LEARNING KNOWLEDGE
Nutrition and Nutrients – Basic Principles
How it works
Nutrients are vital substances that the body absorbs from food. The main nutrients include carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and water. Each nutrient fulfills specific tasks: carbohydrates and fats provide energy, proteins are important for the building and repair of body cells, vitamins and minerals regulate many body functions. A balanced diet contains all nutrient groups in the correct proportion. A deficiency or excess of individual nutrients can lead to health problems.
Note
Nutrients perform different functions in the body; a balanced diet covers the need for all main nutrients and supports growth, energy supply and health.
