Final exam preparation: Dialogues and suitable reactions (Latvian)

How it works

In everyday Latvian life and in exam situations, it is important to respond appropriately to different conversational situations. This includes polite answers, suitable reactions to questions, requests, thanks or apologies. The choice of the correct answer depends on the context, the relationship between the speakers and the desired tone. For example, for ‹Paldies!›, both ‹Lūdzu!› and ‹Nav par ko!› are common polite reactions, depending on the situation. To a request for permission such as ‹Vai drīkstu ienākt?›, one responds appropriately with ‹Jā, lūdzu!›. The goal is to react in a situation-appropriate and linguistically correct way.

Note
Choose the answer that best fits the given Latvian conversational situation. Pay attention to politeness, context and linguistic correctness.

An example

How do you politely answer ‹Vai drīkstu ienākt?›?

The appropriate answer is ‹Jā, lūdzu!›, because in Latvian this is a polite way of agreeing to a request for permission.
