Exam Preparation: Details and Textual Evidence (Latvian, Reading)
How it works
In this exercise, the goal is to read Latvian texts carefully and extract information in a targeted way. Details such as names, numbers, places, time references, or reasons are asked for. Typical tasks involve filtering out specific facts from a Latvian text or recognizing which statement is supported by the text. You must read attentively, because the correct answer is often not stated word for word in the text, but has to be inferred. Example: In the sentence ‹Anna dzīvo Rīgā, bet viņas brālis – Liepājā.› you can see that the first person mentioned lives in ‹Rīgā›, but her brother lives in ‹Liepājā›.
To extract details correctly from a Latvian text, look for keywords and compare them with the answer choices. Pay attention to synonyms and paraphrases that may be used in the text. Read the entire text before making a decision.
An example
Sapulces beigās viņa atgādināja, ka visiem rakstiem jābūt iesūtītiem līdz piektdienas pulksten četriem, jo sestdien avīzi nosūtīs drukai.› By when do the articles have to be submitted?
