Exam preparation: main statements of your own original texts (Latvian, 10. grade)
How it works
This topic is about recognizing and understanding the main statement of a Latvian text or text passage. The main statement (Latvian: ‹galvenā doma›) is the central concern or the most important information the author wants to convey. To identify it, you must consider the text as a whole and distinguish unimportant details from the core message. The main statement often appears at the beginning or end of a paragraph, but sometimes it is implicit and must be inferred from the context. Example: In the sentence ‹Rīgā ir daudz skaistu parku, kuros cilvēki bieži atpūšas› the main statement is that there are many beautiful parks in Riga that are used.
The main statement of a text is the most important information or message the text wants to convey. Read the text carefully and ask yourself: What is the central topic or core message?
An example
What is the main statement of the following text?
