Meaning-based language mediation with your own short texts (Latvian)
How it works
In meaning-based language mediation, the main statements and important details of a foreign-language text (here: in Latvian) are summarized or conveyed in your own words. It is not necessary to translate every word literally; instead, the meaning and the most important information should be reproduced clearly. For example, a Latvian text such as ‹Es mācos skolā un pēc stundām eju uz sporta nodarbībām.› can be rendered in German in a meaningful way as: „I go to school and do sports afterward.“ It is important that no essential information is lost and that the text is conveyed appropriately for the context.
Summarize the content of a Latvian text so that the most important information is preserved. Use your own wording, but make sure that the meaning remains correct.
An example
How would you render the Latvian sentence ‹Man patīk lasīt grāmatas un klausīties mūziku.› in German in a meaningful way?
