CLASS 6 · LEARNING KNOWLEDGE

Understanding simple everyday questions and matching answers (Latvian, 6 class)

How it works

In this topic area, you learn to understand short everyday questions in Latvian and suitable answers. This includes questions about name, age, place of residence, weather, free time, food, or school. Typical question words are ‹kā›, ‹kur›, ‹cik› and ‹ko›, and yes/no questions often begin with ‹vai›. Common answer patterns are, for example, ‹Mani sauc Anna.›, ‹Man ir divpadsmit gadi.›, ‹Es dzīvoju Rīgā.› or ‹Jā, lūdzu.› You should recognize which answer fits the question or statement directly.

Note
Pay attention to question words and fixed expressions. A name given such as ‹Mani sauc Jānis.› fits ‹Kā tevi sauc?›, a place indication such as ‹Es dzīvoju Liepājā.› fits ‹Kur tu dzīvo?›, and a polite reaction such as ‹Nav par ko.› fits ‹Paldies par palīdzību!›

An example

Which answer fits: ‹Cik tev ir gadu?›

The correct answer is ‹Man ir divpadsmit gadi.›, because the question with ‹cik› asks about age.
