Date, appointments, and daily routine in context (Latvian, 6. grade)
How it works
In this topic, students learn how to ask for the date in Latvian, arrange appointments, and describe the daily routine. Important vocabulary includes days of the week such as ‹pirmdien›, months such as ‹janvāris›, ordinal numbers for dates such as ‹divpadsmitais›, time expressions such as ‹plkst. septiņos›, and typical activities such as ‹es eju uz skolu›. In a sentence with a date, the locative case is usually used, for example ‹piecpadsmitajā martā›. If only the calendar date is given, ‹piecpadsmitais marts› is also possible.
In sentences with a date, the date usually stands in the locative case, for example ‹divdesmitajā februārī›. When asking for an appointment, one can use ‹Kurā datumā?› or ‹Cikos?›, for example. Times of day are often given with ‹plkst.› and the time, for example ‹plkst. astoņos›. For activities in the daily routine, the present tense is often used, for example ‹es brokastoju›.
An example
How do you say in Latvian in a sentence: “The trip is on the third of May.”? Use the date form ‹trešajā maijā›.
