Final exam preparation: Dialogues and suitable reactions (Russian)

How it works

In Russian everyday dialogues, it is important to respond appropriately to the situation. This includes recognizing the intention of the conversation partner and choosing a suitable reply. For example, a thank-you such as ‹Спасибо за помощь!› is typically followed by a polite response such as ‹Пожалуйста!› or ‹Не за что!›. There are also common, situation-dependent reactions to questions about someone’s well-being, requests, or suggestions. Choosing the right answer shows an understanding of the communication situation and of Russian conversational culture. In dialogue tasks, you must pay attention to both meaning and tone as well as context in order to avoid misunderstandings.

Note
Choose the answer that best fits the given Russian utterance in content and style. Pay attention to politeness, context, and common conversational patterns.

An example

How do you respond appropriately to: ‹Как дела?›

The appropriate answer is ‹Хорошо, спасибо! А у тебя?›, because it addresses the question and continues the conversation politely.
