Meaning-based language mediation with your own short texts (Russian)
How it works
Meaning-based language mediation means transferring a text or a statement from one language (e.g. German) into another language (here: Russian) in a way that preserves the meaning and is easy to understand. It is not about word-for-word translation, but about conveying the central content, intentions, and information. It is important that the meaning is retained and that the text sounds natural in Russian. Examples: ‹Ich habe morgen einen Termin beim Arzt› can be rendered in a meaning-based way as ‹Завтра у меня приём у врача›. The choice of words and sentence structure may follow the conventions of the target language.
When transferring a text into Russian in a meaning-based way, the main content should be conveyed clearly and naturally. Not every word has to be translated exactly, but the central message must not be lost.
An example
How would you render the German sentence “Wir treffen uns nach der Schule im Park.” in a meaning-based way in Russian? A suitable answer can, for example, be ‹После школы мы встречаемся в парке›.
