Short original texts: main idea and details (Russian, 7th grade)
How it works
In this topic, you will learn to read short Russian texts and identify the main idea as well as important details. The main idea is the central theme or the most important information in a text, while details are additional information or examples. For example, in a text about a school trip, the main idea may be that the class went to the museum, and details may be what they saw there or how they got there. You practice looking for this information in a focused way by answering questions about the text.
To find the main idea of a text, ask yourself: What is it about overall? For details, look for specific facts such as names, places, times, or actions mentioned in the text. Read carefully and compare the answer choices with the text.
An example
Read the text: ‹Вчера мы с классом ездили в зоопарк. Мы видели много животных: львов, слонов и обезьян. Погода была хорошая, и все были довольны.› What is the main idea of the text?
