Numbers, days of the week and time as an introduction (Russian, 5. grade)
How it works
In this topic area, students learn the Russian numbers from 1 to 20, the days of the week and simple expressions for telling the time. In Russian, the numbers are expressed with their own words, e.g. ‹один›, ‹два›, ‹три›. The days of the week are called e.g. ‹понедельник›, ‹вторник› and so on. For telling the time, the numbers are combined with the appropriate forms of ‹час› and ‹минута›, e.g. ‹два часа›, ‹пять часов› and ‹пять минут›. Correct assignment of days of the week, numbers and time is important for everyday life and communication.
Russian numbers from 1 to 20 have their own words. The days of the week are nouns and are usually written in lowercase in Russian, except at the beginning of a sentence. For full hours, for example, ‹час›, ‹два часа›, ‹три часа›, ‹четыре часа› and ‹пять часов› are used. For minutes, suitable forms of ‹минута› are used, e.g. ‹одна минута›, ‹две минуты› and ‹пять минут›.
