Cylinder and Cone
How it works
A cylinder has a circular base. A cone with the same base area and height has one third of the cylinder's volume. The vertical height must not be confused with the slant height.
Note
Cylinder V=πr²h; Cone V=πr²h/3; Cylinder O=2πr²+2πrh.
Cylinder V=πr²h; Cone V=πr²h/3; Cylinder O=2πr²+2πrh.
An example
A cylinder has radius 3 cm and height 5 cm. Calculate the volume using π without intermediate rounding. Round to two decimal places. Give the result in cm³.
V = π r² h = π · 3² · 5. Result: 141.37 cm³.
