Shopping, eating and traveling in dialogues (English)
How it works
In this topic area, we practice how to handle everyday situations while shopping, eating and traveling in English in simple dialogues. Typical expressions are, for example, ‹How much is this?›, ‹Can I have a sandwich, please?› or ‹Where is the train station?›. The goal is to ask politely, ask for help, understand prices and respond to simple instructions. The correct use of ‹please› and ‹thank you› is important for polite communication. You also learn how to ask for directions and give simple answers, e.g. ‹Turn left at the corner›. The aim is to be able to communicate in everyday situations.
In English, polite questions with ‹Can I…?› or ‹Could you…?› are used when shopping, ordering or asking for information. For directions, one uses directional terms such as ‹left›, ‹right› and ‹straight›. Prices are asked with ‹How much…?›. To ask about wishes, one uses ‹Would you like…?›.
