Understanding short dialogues and simple reading texts (English, 5. grade)
How it works
In this topic you learn to understand short English dialogues and simple reading texts. In doing so, you recognize important words, simple sentence structures, and can extract basic information from texts. Typical examples are greetings such as ‹Hello, how are you?›, information about names and age (‹My name is Tom. I am ten.›), or short conversations about school and family. You practice looking for details in a targeted way and recognizing the main idea of a text. The tasks help you understand typical everyday situations in English and respond to them.
Pay attention to key words (e.g. names, numbers, places) and word order. Read the question carefully and look for the matching information in the text or dialogue. Choose the answer that best fits the content of the text.
An example
‹What does Anna say in the dialogue?› Anna: ‹Good morning!› Tom: ‹Hi, Anna!›
