Quadratic equations
How it works
Quadratic equations can have no, one, or two real solutions. For factored equations, the zero product property applies. For x² = a, if a > 0, the solutions are ±√a.
Note
(x−r)(x−s)=0 ⇒ x=r or x=s; Discriminant D=b²−4ac.
(x−r)(x−s)=0 ⇒ x=r or x=s; Discriminant D=b²−4ac.
An example
Solve (x+10)(x−7) = 0. Give the larger solution. Give only the requested number.
Zero product: x = −10 or x = 7. The larger solution is 7. Result: 7.
