Cosmological Observations and Open Questions – Basic Principles
How it works
Cosmological observations provide clues about the development and structure of the universe. These include the redshift of distant galaxies, the cosmic microwave background radiation, the distribution of galaxies, and evidence of dark matter and dark energy. Many questions remain open, for example about the exact nature of dark matter and dark energy, the conditions in the very early universe, and the long-term future of the universe. Scientific models are tested and further developed on the basis of observational data.
Cosmological observations are used to verify models of the universe and identify open questions. Measured data such as redshift, background radiation, or galaxy distribution are interpreted in order to draw conclusions about the age, development, and composition of the universe.
