Multistage random experiments
How it works
In a tree diagram, probabilities along a path are multiplied. Probabilities of different, mutually exclusive paths are added. When drawing without replacement, the composition changes.
Note
Path rule: multiply; sum rule: add matching paths.
Path rule: multiply; sum rule: add matching paths.
An example
A bag contains 7 red and 3 blue balls. Two draws with replacement: What is P(two reds) in percent? Round to two decimal places. Give the result in %.
Each time P(Red)=7/10. Multiply path and convert with 100 to percent. Result: 49 %.
