The Sun as a Star – Basic Principles
How it works
The Sun is a medium-sized star at the center of our solar system. It consists mainly of hydrogen and helium and generates energy through nuclear fusion in its interior. This energy is radiated as light and heat and makes life on Earth possible. The Sun is much larger and hotter than the Earth. It appears to us as the largest source of light in the sky because it is the closest to us. The Sun has a structure with different layers (core, radiative zone, convective zone, photosphere, chromosphere, corona). It is about 150 million kilometers away from the Earth.
The Sun is a star that generates energy through nuclear fusion and radiates it as light and heat. Its appearance and effect on Earth result from its proximity, size, and composition.
