The Earth as a planet – basic principles
How it works
The Earth is a planet of the solar system. It moves in an orbit around the Sun, rotates around its own axis, has an atmosphere and is the only known planet with life. The Earth is approximately spherical, has a diameter of about 12.700 km and needs about 24 hours for one rotation. The rotation of the Earth around its axis causes day and night. The tilt of the Earth's axis and its movement around the Sun cause the seasons.
Note
The Earth is a planet that moves around the Sun, rotates around its own axis and can be distinguished from other celestial bodies by its properties.

An example
What is one characteristic that identifies the Earth as a planet?
