Astronomy and scientific observation – fundamentals

How it works

Astronomy is the science that deals with celestial bodies such as stars, planets, moons and other objects in space. Scientific observation means observing these celestial bodies systematically and precisely in order to collect information about them. Various aids such as telescopes or binoculars are used. The observations must be documented precisely and be reproducible in order to obtain reliable results.

Note
In scientific observation in astronomy, celestial bodies are observed and documented systematically and precisely in order to obtain reliable information about their properties and movements.

An example

What is the most important goal in scientific observation in astronomy?

The most important goal is to observe celestial bodies precisely and document the observations in such a way that they are verifiable and reproducible. In this way, reliable information can be collected that helps to better understand space.
