CLASS 8 · LEARNING KNOWLEDGE
Powers and powers of ten
How it works
A power is a repeated product. With the same base, exponents add when multiplying and subtract when dividing. Negative exponents represent reciprocals.
Note
a^m·a^n=a^(m+n); a^0=1 for a≠0; a^(−n)=1/a^n.
a^m·a^n=a^(m+n); a^0=1 for a≠0; a^(−n)=1/a^n.
An example
Determine the exponent n in 11^11 · 11^9 = 11^n. Give only the requested number.
With the same base, the exponents are added: 11+9. Result: 20.
