Literary analysis using short original examples – basic principles

How it works

Literary analysis examines how a text works through language, structure, and content. This includes identifying stylistic devices (e.g. metaphor, comparison), interpreting characters, motifs, and themes, as well as analyzing the effect on the reader. Precise textual evidence and a factual, coherent argument are important. The analysis distinguishes between content (‹Was passiert?›), form (‹Wie wird es gesagt?›), and effect (‹Welche Wirkung wird erzielt?›).

Note
In literary analysis, a short text excerpt is examined for content, stylistic devices, structure, and effect. Textual evidence and factual justifications are essential.
