Fraction equations and domain
How it works
Denominators must not be zero. Determine the excluded values before transforming, then multiply by the common denominator and check the solution in the original equation.
Note
a/(x+b)=c ⇒ x=a/c−b; x≠−b and c≠0.
a/(x+b)=c ⇒ x=a/c−b; x≠−b and c≠0.
An example
Solve 27/x=9. Note x≠0. Provide only the solution.
Multiply by x: 27=9x. Divide by 9. Check: 27:3=9. Result: 3.
