Drama and dramatic presentation – basic principles
How it works
Drama is a literary genre characterized by dialogue and dramatic presentation. In drama, conflicts between characters are shown on stage. Typical features are acts, scenes, stage directions, and direct speech. Dramatic presentation includes the realization of the text in action, scenery, facial expression, gesture, and language. Dramas differ in structure (e.g. ‹klassische Fünf-Akt-Struktur›), character constellation, and the function of monologues and dialogues. Stage directions provide guidance for staging. The effect of a drama arises from the interaction of text and dramatic realization.
In drama, conflicts and actions are presented on stage through direct speech and dramatic presentation; stage directions, structure, and characters' speech are central elements.
