Reading informational texts and finding information – basic principles
How it works
Informational texts convey knowledge or provide information about a topic. They differ from literary texts through factual language and a clear structure. Typical types of informational texts are ‹Berichte›, ‹Anleitungen›, ‹Lexikonartikel›, or ‹Zeitungsartikel›. To find information, one uses headings, paragraphs, highlights, and sometimes diagrams. It is important to search specifically for answers and to read the text carefully in order to recognize ‹Fakten›, ‹Meinungen›, and ‹Zusammenfassungen›.
When reading informational texts, it helps to search specifically for certain information, pay attention to headings and paragraphs, and mark important passages in the text.
An example
In the informational text ‹Die Biene› it says: ‹Bienen bestäuben Blumen und sorgen so für die Vermehrung vieler Pflanzen.› What task do bees have according to the text?
