Post-war order and occupation zones – basic principles
How it works
After the Second World War, Germany 1945 was occupied by the Allied powers (USA, Great Britain, France, Soviet Union) and divided into four occupation zones. The aim was control, demilitarisation, democratisation and the reorganisation of Germany. Berlin was also divided into four sectors. The occupying powers determined political, economic and social developments. The different interests of the Allies soon led to tensions that contributed to the division of Germany.
Note
