World War II and Occupation Policy – Basic Principles

How it works

The Second World War (1939–1945) was a global conflict that began in Europe with the German attack on Poland. The war led to the occupation of large parts of Europe by German troops. Nazi occupation policy was characterized by repression, exploitation, violence, and targeted persecution. In the occupied territories, resources were plundered, forced labor was imposed, and the local population was oppressed. Resistance was brutally suppressed. The occupation policy differed depending on the region and the aims of the National Socialists. After the end of the war, the occupied territories were liberated and Germany itself was occupied by the Allies.

Note
The occupation policy of the National Socialists in the Second World War was marked by repression, exploitation, and violence against the population of the occupied territories. The measures and aims varied depending on the region, but always concerned the control and exploitation of resources as well as the enforcement of National Socialist ideology.

An example

What main goal did the National Socialist occupation policy pursue in Eastern Europe?

The National Socialist occupation policy in Eastern Europe was primarily aimed at domination, exploitation of resources, and the violent oppression of the population. Reason: The Nazi leadership regarded Eastern Europe as 'living space' and planned comprehensive control there, economic exploitation, expulsion, and, against persecuted groups, also systematic extermination.
