Linear equations
How it works
An equation remains true if the same valid operation is performed on both sides. Isolate the variable and check by substitution. Division by zero is not allowed.
Note
ax+b=c ⇒ x=(c−b)/a for a≠0.
ax+b=c ⇒ x=(c−b)/a for a≠0.
An example
Solve 11x+10=21. Provide only the solution.
Subtract 10 on both sides: 11x=11. Then divide by 11. Result: 1.
