Restoration, Vormärz and Revolution 1848/49 – Basic Principles
How it works
The period from 1815 to 1849 in Germany was marked by the Restoration after the Congress of Vienna, the emerging desire for national unity and freedom rights (Vormärz), as well as the revolution of 1848/49. The Restoration aimed to restore the old monarchical structures. In the Vormärz, resistance to this order grew, especially among students, citizens and parts of the working class. The revolution 1848/49 brought short-term political changes, but did not lead to lasting German unity or a stable democracy. Central terms are Congress of Vienna, German Confederation, Carlsbad Decrees, National Assembly and Fundamental Rights.
The epoch from 1815 to 1849 includes the restoration of old political structures (Restoration), the strengthening of liberal and national movements (Vormärz), and the revolution of 1848/49, which aspired to freedom and unity but ultimately failed.
