American Independence – Basic Principles
How it works
American Independence refers to the process by which the 13 British colonies in North America broke away from Great Britain in the 18. century and founded their own state, the United States of America. Important events include the War of Independence (1775–1783), the Declaration of Independence of 1776 and the role of Enlightenment ideas. Causes included, among other things, tax policy, lack of political participation and British restrictions. The revolution led to new state structures and influenced later freedom movements worldwide.
American Independence emerged from conflicts between the colonies and Great Britain over taxes, political rights and self-determination and led to the founding of the USA through war and the Declaration of Independence.
