Alexander the Great and Hellenism – Basic Principles

How it works

Alexander the Great (356–323 BC) was king of Macedon and conquered large parts of the then known world, including Persia and Egypt. Through his campaigns, he spread Greek culture far beyond Greece. This blending of Greek and Oriental elements is called Hellenism. Hellenism influenced language, art, science, and everyday life in many regions.

Note
Hellenism describes the spread and blending of Greek culture with other cultures in the eastern Mediterranean region and Asia after the conquests of Alexander the Great.
