Neolithic period and sedentariness – fundamentals
How it works
The Neolithic period (Neolithic) did not begin everywhere at the same time: In the Near East, it began around 10.000 BC, in Central Europe much later. Characteristics of this era were the transition of many people from hunting and gathering to agriculture and animal husbandry, permanent settlements, food storage, pottery, and often ground stone tools. Sedentary life promoted larger communities and social changes. Archaeological finds such as houses, grain stores, tools, and pottery provide insights into the lives of the people of this time.
In the Neolithic period, people in many regions became sedentary, practiced agriculture and animal husbandry, and lived in permanent settlements. However, the beginning and development differed depending on the region.
