Stone Age and way of life – basic principles

How it works

The Stone Age (Palaeolithic) is the oldest period in human history. People lived as hunters and gatherers in small groups, used simple tools made of stone, wood and bone, and often followed animal herds and the seasons. They lived in simple shelters such as tents or huts; sometimes they also used caves. They did not yet know agriculture or animal husbandry. Fire was very important for warmth, protection and preparing food. The Stone Age ended with the beginning of the Neolithic, when people gradually became sedentary.

Note
In the Stone Age, people lived as hunters and gatherers, used simple stone tools, and were not sedentary.
