Chemistry, the environment and safe handling – basics

How it works

Chemistry deals with substances, their properties and changes. Chemicals can be useful, but also dangerous for people and the environment. Correct handling of chemicals includes recognizing hazard symbols, following safety rules and avoiding environmental pollution. Chemical substances must be disposed of properly in order to protect the environment. Recycling and saving resources are important contributions to environmental protection. Chemistry helps to solve everyday problems, but it also carries risks if regulations are ignored.

Note
When handling chemical substances, safety rules must be observed, hazard symbols recognized and environmentally responsible disposal ensured.
