Calculating with decimal numbers
How it works
Decimal numbers have tenths, hundredths, and further decimal places. In addition and subtraction, the decimal points align vertically. In multiplication, the number of decimal places is taken into account.
Note
0.1=1/10; 0.01=1/100; decimal point aligned for + and − vertically.
0.1=1/10; 0.01=1/100; decimal point aligned for + and − vertically.
An example
Calculate 89/10 + 89/10. Give only the requested number.
Write decimals one under another. In tenths: 89+89=178; then divide by 10. Result: 17.8.
