Understanding and simplifying fractions
How it works
A fraction describes parts of a whole. The denominator counts the equally sized parts, the numerator the selected parts. Simplifying and expanding do not change the value if numerator and denominator are divided or multiplied by the same number.
Note
a/b=(a·k)/(b·k); fraction of a quantity = (a/b)·quantity.
a/b=(a·k)/(b·k); fraction of a quantity = (a/b)·quantity.
